SAO PAULO CHURCH

The beautiful Church of São Paulo is located in the historic area of ​​the cosmopolitan city of Lisbon,

The current temple was rebuilt on a previous church, that after being destroyed during the devastating earthquake of 1755 that shook the Portuguese capital so much.

 

In 1768 the reconstruction works started, according to the project of Architect Remígio Francisco de Abreu,

 

The Church, with a single nave with a longitudinal plan, has two square bell towers, a rectangular chancel and eight side chapels.

 

Oil Canvas Paintings

The beautiful interior paintings are attributed to João Grossi and Pedro Alexandrino de Carvalho, and those on the nave's ceiling to Jerónimo de Andrade.

The ceiling painting is a spectacular 414 sq meter oil canvas painting.
